Cownose rays are disappearing from Florida estuaries, caught by the thousands to be reduced to shark fishing bait. Florida Wildlife Commission (FWC) staff are recommending catch limits. This is a big step in the right direction, but well short of what FWC workshops suggested and scientists have backed up, including the American Elasmobranch Society, who have rallied behind full protections for cownose rays, just like every other pelagic ray in Florida.
